The Kalahari is known for its scorching temperatures in the summer and icy chill in the winter. Air conditioning helps us mimic the temperature of the pangolin’s burrow to ensure that the reintroduction is a smooth and comfortable transition for them. Air conditioners are not cheap and with the soaring cost of electricity in South Africa it’s essential that we buy a quality system with a good energy efficiency rating. It also needs to be robust as should it fail for even a short period the scorching heat of the Northern Cape can rapidly heat buildings up to intolerable levels. The units that we will be buying are for the clinic as well as the separate location where the pangolins rest during the day.
